I was honored to throw on the Hudson Elite jersey for the first time on July 4th. July 4th is a special holiday for me (I’m a navy Veteran with a political science/American History degree) as many of my close friends know my story, and with time I will be able to share more of it with everyone!
The morning started off with a very early wake up and a short drive out to Superior for the Superior downhill mile. First off, I would like to start by saying how great of a job Flatirons Running, Inc. and the town of Superior did with putting this wonderful race on. I have had the opportunity to run in a lot of mile races in my career thus far, but none quite like this one. The competition got out quick as the opening quarter was run in 55-56 seconds. This was a great little shock to the system. I haven’t done a whole lot of race specific running the past few weeks knowing that this race was going to be for fun. With that being said, after the first half mile my competitive juices were flowing. All of the miles and aerobic work I have put in throughout the whole year allowed me to feel comfortable through the first half mile in 1:56. I was fully expecting a fast pace since the race was downhill, and there was a little bit of prize money on the line, but my legs disagreed with the idea. Somewhere around 400 meters to go the pace dropped as my competitors began the long kick for home. As much as I wanted to represent my new team, and show off my sweet new jersey at the finish line in first, I was unable to come away with the victory. I finished 4th in 3:56.
I am beyond excited to be able to call Hudson Elite my new home. This mile was the first of many races that I will run. Some races will be great and some probably not so great, but one thing for certain is that I will be giving this group everything I have in the coming years. I look forward to the success and enjoyment I will gain from having Brad as a coach, my new teammates in training, and the many miles I’ll put in around the town of Boulder! The support I have received since joining this group a few weeks ago has been unreal. I am not running for my own enjoyment but for something bigger than myself, my team Hudson Elite.
