Buying running shoes in Venezuela is a very complicated quest. The shoe companies are not selling specialty shoes because the cost of import is too high. In addition, people can't afford shoes due to low wages; they struggle to even buy basic commodities. It would take more than a full month's salary to buy one pair of shoes.
Luis, Hudson Elite athlete and a Venezuelan Olympic Marathoner, organized this shoe drive to give back to his home country. We have teamed up with him to collect 100 pairs of shoes in the next three weeks to send to young and upcoming athletes in Venezuela. The shoes will be distributed on March 25th by the Venezuelan T&F Federation at a local athletics event.
The picture here shows how affordable spikes can be in the US, the pair on the left is $10.99 and the one on the right is $5.99. These spikes can be found at stores like ROSS and BURLINGTON COAT FACTORY.
WE can make a difference in these kids' lives. Here's how you can join us:
- Donate your new or gently worn shoes. Contact one of the Hudson Elite members and we will gladly receive them from you. There will also be a box at Flatirons Running, Inc, in Boulder starting the evening of February 15th.
- If you are in the US you can mail us the shoes (Contact anyone on the team for the info)
- Share this post on social media and let others know about it.
